Day 7 sandland brygge
Last day today and we woke up to find 2 inches of snow laying outside. There was a good lot of wind forecast for later so we had to take this into account as we headed out. with the snow everything took a little longer this morning and we were a little on the drag. We arrived at our chosen mark with very little wind first thing as there was plenty of shelter. We got set up as we did lee got a tangle in his braid. As he tried to untangle it he felt a couple of tugs and before he could ask for help a fish ripped the braid through his hand. It pulled straight into the joint of his index finger and skinned an inch of his little finger before he knew it. Dad and I tied the braid off on the boat, cut the tangle out and re-tied the mainline and by some miracle the fish was still attached! He played it in and it was our biggest of the week along with being his first halibut. It went 33lbs and after a few pictures went back alive. While lee was re-tackling and licking his wounds we got fishing again and my rod went off this time. I soon had it in the boat and it was a fish around half the size of his but still welcome. the rest of the day was a bit of a pain the be honest. Lee missed a bite straight after mine and then the wind picked up. We were soon drifting along at nearly 2 knots which is too much for me in deep water. We moved around and had a couple more missed bites and lost fish but as the day went on and the wind freshened we struggled to find shelter anywhere. The first 30 minutes or so this morning were the best. As yet another lot of rain and sleet came through the wind notched up a bit more. We tried to find shelter just outside the harbour but gave up and put the boat away early. Myself and lee braved the wind and rain to fish on from the harbour wall. I had a coalfish then I was lucky enough to have a halibut around 8lbd on my spinning rod. After this we called it a day and had enjoyed our time here . I think we had done well throughout the week in some conditions that were far from ideal. This is a testament to the location and the set up along with the guidance of our new friends here along with those it home. It was definitely worth coming here and we plan to return when we can.
