offshore bass fishing and lockdown update

offshore bass fishing and lockdown update

This week I thought I would update you on our offshore bass trips over the later part of the summer. These started as we finished our tope trips back in July. To be honest several of our tope trips included a frantic session on the bass with feathers and lures. We also had some of our biggest bass while tope fishing which isn’t uncommon. With good numbers of bass around we often had our quota of bass within an hour or less of fishing and this meant we could more on to target other species too. As the season progressed we could mix up bait fishing and lure fishing depending on the conditions of each day. once again this lead to some rather hectic sessions on feathers or surface lures. One thing that’s nice to see is how several of our anglers are bringing a lighter set up for spinning or bait fishing with when they get the chance. This makes for some great sport, particularly with surface lures. Alex Canham soon picked up on this and worked hard to nick a nice bass on a surface popper on his spinning rod. Conditions don’t always allow for lure fishing and this has been the case on all of our trips lately. Luckily when lures don’t work they take bottom fished baits just as readily. We have seen the numbers of fish we catch each day vary as well as the average stamp but every trip has been successful. Even when we are bait fishing it can be hard to keep track of numbers of fish as a shoal comes through and I have unhook 3 or 4 fish at once. We snuck in several trips in some snotty October weather and still had 60-80 bass per day. even on our last trip at the start of November I clocked 115 bass between 5 anglers who were mostly using one rod each throughout the day. that’s some good going as most of those fish came in the first two hours! I could only guess at our best day this year but I would say over 250 bass would be a sensible guess. The biggest bass of the summer went to Stephen Clarke at 10.7lbs although we cant rule out this being broken by a stray winter fish. that’s if we are allowed to fish this winter?

Due to the current lockdown I have cancelled trips until 2nd of December when it is due to be lifted. December dates are filling up quickly.   Hopefully you should be able to get out fishing on your own from the beach or bank if I cant get you out.

I am currently able to offer single person bookings only until the 2nd of December. I can offer two different rates- full boat whole day charter £400 or full boat half day charter (likely within the blackwater) £200.

I have plenty of availability throughout November should you wish to get out and can afford to book the boat.

For now I will continue to take bookings for December and into the new year in the hope that we can get you back out there soon.
