I had 4 lads booked on an offshore bass trip today so we got away nice and early to get the best from the tide. I havnt been off here on a bass trip for a couple of years as the restrictions on bass seem to have put several anglers off. I was looking forwards to getting back off here and martin had joined us as he was keen to fish here again too. Steve, chris and matt hadn’t been offshore for bass with me before and I was keen to show them how much fun it is but apprehensive about what we might find this late in the season. We got the last of the tide on our first mark and missed a few bites as well as boating a few too. Steve canham didn’t disappoint us by landing a fine pin whiting after what can only be described as an epic battle! Once the tide died we had a short move. I anchored a different mark for a while as I waited for the tide to get going. We had one or two bass here and steve had a dab (im not sure he realised we were on a bass trip not a species hunt). I wasn’t planning on staying here unless it fished really well and the arrival of a seal signalled time to move on. We moved a short distance to my intended mark and with the tide now perfect the bass came through in good numbers. they varied from small schoolies to sizable fish and there were several over 3lb mixed in throughout the day. Off here these fish fight really well and the bites are fantastic too. by midday the lads had 30 bass between just 4 rods and had there one bass per anglers to take home. As the fishing tailed off a bit I offered to have a move closer to home with a chance of more variety. We went for this option and had a short move closer to home. We arrived here just as the tide got going and the lads found several more bass along with roker, pouting and a few smooth-hounds to finish the day. We ended up with 45 bass between the 4 lads along with several other bits and bobs.
