october

Today I was joined by 6 lads for a premier trip. We didn’t have far to go today as the wind meant it was our first day of the autumn we would spend in the river blackwater. We got a fair way down the river with conditions still ok and we were soon catching the first whiting and dogfish. The first roker didn’t take long to come out although we managed to loose a couple as well. We sat it out over slack tide where the wind actually helped us swing around faster. The start of the tide pushed a few more fish through but as the tide picked up we decided on a move. As there was less wind than we expected I pushed a little further down but soon came back to the river as I wasn’t happy we would be comfortable here if the wind picked up. When we got anchored back in the river I was glad we were back in here as the wind picked up a fair bit more. Thankfully we were still in comfort here with lots of whiting and dogfish coming out along with the odd roker here and there. We sat it out here until home time hoping to find one or two codling but we had no luck with that. Dad was fishing just a short distance from us and managed one 20 inches long. We had 19 roker for the day and were pleased with that on a day many boats would be forced to cancel.
