We have had another busy run of trips over the last week or two. The general fishing has continued to be great fun and productive too. At times the numbers of smooth-hounds coming aboard seemed a bit lower than the last set of tides produced. However our best day still saw over 40 hounds to the boat and most trips the biggest went into low double figures. These were joined by several bass most days as we would expect with some nice fish coming aboard too.. we normally expect hounds and bass to make up most of our trips this time of year. However, Some of our general trips have produced a real variety of fish for the Thames estuary. As well as the hounds and bass we have seen more roker than expected, dogfish, whiting and small tope. Some of the tope showing inshore are pushing into double figures while others have literally just been born. On a calm and sunny day last week I saw a few fish surface while we were at anchor. Seeing one clear the water a while later confirmed my suspicions they were garfish. Shortly after this Neil Cocks announced that a garfish had just followed his bait to the boat and vowed to catch it. A few minutes later he had a rig cobbled together from bits rolling around in his sand filled tackle box. Shortly after the rig hit the water I was interrupted from making the next cup of tea by Neil waving a garfish at me through the wheelhouse window. I must admit I was impressed, it seems he can catch them to order!
Over the next few weeks I am pretty booked on the boat. I can only guess that the sudden surge of calls, texts and emails I have received is related to the looming relaxation of covid rules? By all means call me and I will do my best to fit you in somewhere. However don’t forget we run all year around so don’t rule out October and November for fishing trips. We had some great trips offshore for bass in these months last year and I fully intend offering bass trips until the end of November this year. Please get in touch soon to book the best tides.

COVID-19 UPDATE
We have now had confirmation that the large deck area on Galloper we have some good news. we are able to accommodate up to 8 anglers plus the skipper as of 17/05/21.
This is great news for anybody planning a full boat booking as they can try and keep the cost per person down a bit.
However we are keeping any existing bookings as 6 anglers plus the skipper for now and I will only take bookings for later in the summer on this basis. I would rather leave the date open for now until we are out of the woods with covid. It wasn’t much fun re-arranging things last year and I hope to avoid it this year if I can help it.
If you wish to book a trip with more than 6 people at short notice and the guidelines are still the same then I will gladly take you.
