I headed out tonight with a group of lads for a short evening trip. The weather wasn’t bad and made our way down in search of a few bass and roker. As I went to anchor I noticed some bass working fairly close to us. I managed to position the boat close enough to cast at the fish but couldn’t hang around as it was a bit shallow. We had two strings of bass before they spooked, we tried anchoring nearby but only had missed bites for our efforts. We headed back to fish for roker before we lost the tide. The lads had a nice brace of fish on the first cast while I made the tea and then we nearly lost a rod over the sider as another fish roared off. This one fought differently though. I had several guesses at what it might be before a nice hound hit the surface. I was pleased to see this as its only the second one ive ever seen in the river! As we fished on I could see the bass had moved to a different area now we decided to have a go for them again as we made our way home. We had loads of schollies on the feathers in a hectic 20 minutes or so before home time. We ended up with 2 roker, a smooth-hound and lots of schoolie bass.
