yet again ive had another hectic week between working 7 days a week and working on the new boat in the evenings so I will try and keep this short but sweet.
I headed round to brightlingsea to do a multi boat charter with ‘eastern promise’ and ‘sophie lea’. Ian and the lads had booked for their annual Suffolk vs norfolk police competition. The teams were divided over all three boats and we headed out with a bit of breeze but nothing to worry about. On my boat we stopped for some bass at first. the lads were on a two hook match but still had lots of double hook shots of bass coming in throughout the remainder of the tide. The biggest bass went to steve and was over 55cm long. By slack tide the lads had just shy of 100 bass to the boat, all measured and logged for the comp. we anchored up just as the tide turned and had a 10 roker and 10 hounds through out the rest of the match.
After dropping the lads back at brightlingsea I wizzed back to mersea just in time to take ben and the lads out for a short evening trip. Ben and finley had been out a few weeks ago and were back along with some friends this evening. The lads did well between learning to cast and putting up with big bits of weed at times. We had several moves but couldn’t find any large amounts of fish. we did manage a couple of roker and a few bass but no keepable bass tonight. By the time we headed in the wind had fined away to leave a glorious evening.
Headed out today with leons crew for this months trip. Leon couldn’t make this one, nor could barney but their spaces were filled by dave and brian. I hadn’t seen dave for a few years so it was nice to catch up with him and to meet brian. We started with loads of bass this morning before having a move in search of hounds. Bites were plentiful but we struggled to hook them. The lads had a few hounds and a couple of roker before we headed in.
We did a quick turn around and headed back out for the evening. The weather wasn’t bad and we started with some great hound fishing. we were often playing two or three fish at a time as a pack went through. jane had the first double figure fish and Jodi had the biggest at around 14lbs. we had around 30 for the evening along with a pouting, a couple of bass and a couple of dogfish. Most of the hounds came in the first 90 minutes before the weed forced us to move.
Headed back out today (a little tired by now) with 8 individuals on hire rods. We started by trying for bass. We had a few but nothing to write home about so we made our way off in search of some hounds. They were playing ball today and we had a steady stream of bites throughout the day. as the day went on we used up our worm and were kept busy with plenty of bass between the hounds. Many ofg the bass were 40/41cm long so didn’t quite make table size with just the odd one making it over 42cm long. Another great day with nice lads and far better weather than expected.
