Had the first trip of the year aboard the ‘galloper’ today. it was a premier trip with 6 of the regulars aboard. The weather wasn’t perfect but it was good enough as we headed out. our first couple of marks proved largely unproductive other than a couple of dogfish and whiting. We moved just after the turn of the tide and we expected to be moving closer to home but as conditions allowed (and the lads are mostly mad) we pushed a bit further out. this was a worthwhile move which resulted in 5 roker coming to the boat fairly soon after stopping. These fish were well muddied up underneath which suggests they aren’t moving around much. We seemed to clear these fish up and then just had the odd whiting here and there for the rest of the day and even they weren’t numerous to be honest.  Hopefully we will get favourable weather and tides soon to get offshore as there are lots of sprats and herring inshore at the moment. The sprats should leave soon and hopefully the fishing will pick up then but only time will tell.
