They say two days fishing are never the same and this week was no exception. I was joined by the Maldon sea anglers for one trip and we had half tidy weather for it. We made our way down a fair distance and hoped for a mixed bag of whiting, dogfish and rays. The lads were having their monthly match so we had to mark down what was caught as it came aboard. As it happens whiting scored well on the points system the lads were using so the lads naturally sought them out. this wasn’t hard with the numbers that are about and it made the whiting worth catching. We had more dogfish than we have seen the last few weeks but this too could be the rigs the lads were using to score points. This rigs and the sheer number of whiting meant the roker didn’t stand a chance to get hooked. Martin or ‘charles’ as he was known for the day, did manage a roker as well as a lot of whiting but was beaten by Brian who had around 60 whiting and a few dogfish. We headed in early to meet up with another boat and some other members of the club who were scattering the ashes of a former member. We stopped for a while so the lads could pay their respects before heading in.
The next day I was out with just the 5 lads fishing. the wind had swung around and there was a bit of swell building throughout the day. we had plenty of whiting throughout the day and a couple of dogfish. We did find a few more roker though with one or two on every mark we fished. By the end of the day we had 13 roker. After catching the first roker Robert posed with several more for me and as a reward he ended the day with a small bass which was a welcome change from whiting.
I have spaces this weekend and over the Christmas period. If it doesn’t look as if im booked its worth giving me a shout to see if I am arranging anything as I will do if the weather looks good.
