We were lucky enough to get some more trips out last week. The weather has generally been kind to us. on a few trips there has been rain at times but normally just for a short while. The wind hasn’t been to bad and much of the best fishing is inshore this time of year. Even on these inshore trips being on a big stable platform like our catamaran often makes the day more comfortable for all of us. fishing has been much the same as the last couple of weeks with loads of whiting in places. We had had a go for dabs a couple of times, if we use paternosters it is quite easy to fill every hook each cast either with whiting or dabs or both. There have been some decent dabs mixed in too. The mild weather means that dogfish are still feeding and present in numbers in some places. We even had another bass small the other day.  with all of this life there have been a few rays mixed in along with the chance of a codling too.

Mersea currently falls under tier 2 so we can continue to operate under the same rules as the last couple of weeks at the moment. However I doubt this will last forever, so if you would like to get out while you still can I can offer trips wednesday (23rd) or Thursday (24th).

Please keep an eye out for the books I have been promoting. They are both available on amazon and would make   just search for either book and they seem easy enough to find.

The first book which is an interesting biography from charter skipper Paul Whittall is called ‘from army brat to seadog’  I havnt read the book yet but I his stories made great reading throughout the first lockdown so I look forwards to this one.

The second book includes many stories from the fishing world including several legends such as Geordie Dickerson and Roger Bayzand.

I have read Geordies part and it touches on some of his fantastic catches. I have just started reading Roger Bayzand’s contribution, he is a great writer which makes his stories a pleasure to read. I am honoured to have had my own ‘watery reflections’ story included within the latest book alongside these great skippers. This book is called ‘Sea-Dog Tall Tales’

Just search for the books on amazon.

Don’t forget all profits from both books will go to the RNLI (lifeboat)
