with fantastic weather this week was very busy, im sorry to those of you who we had to turn away and the only advise I can offer is please try to book as far in advance as possible to avoid missing out. those of you who did get out had some great weather, good company and plenty of fish. we pushed off a bit in search of a variety and found good numbers of hounds. no giants this week but plenty of bends in rods. The hounds were joined by roker, bass, dogfish and pouting on our inshore trips. We pushed well offshore on a ‘land of no fish’ trip and had 12 species. No monsters came out although there was ‘the one that got away’. it was nice to see a few Pollock to around 4lbs (not common inshore around here) along with a codling which I had to check in my fishing encyclopaedia to identify as it’s the first one on the boat this year! We only had 3 drifts and had the Pollock and codling and im sure there were more there if we wanted them but that wasn’t what we were there for. Alec gets a special mention for winning the unofficial world pouting championships. Unusually it wasn’t for his famous pout but for catching the most pout-whiting in a heroic effort.
We should see plenty of variety over the next couple of months while we get the crossover from summer to autumn fish. we may see some more decent hounds before they go and there’s plenty of time to catch a bass both inshore and on our offshore trips. In between the numbers of roker and dogfish will pick up. I have spaces this Sunday which I can offer the whole boat at the moment or individual spaces either offshore or inshore. First come first served so don’t hang about.
