There is certainly no shortage of life inshore on our general trips at the moment. Of course there are hoards of whiting and dogfish to work through. These are on our baits very quickly but if baits are changed very regularly then we can work through these fish. There is a real variety of species available some of which we might not expect. These conger were certainly a surprise to see. Not least because we had 2 on our day trip and 2 more in the evening! Now I appreciate that they might not break any records but they put a smile on my face. Considering i had never seen one off of the Essex coast until this year I certainly didn’t expect to see 4 in one day inshore! Hopefully they get a chance to survive and flourish. Unfortunately I noticed that one of the commercial boats who caught one in his pots earlier this year thought the best thing to do was kill it. Despite them being rare and low value. This perfectly demonstrates their mentality. Unfortunately what they catch is only worth anything to them when it’s dead.
