We have been busy aboard the Galloper as usual. We have been greeted with a variety of weather conditions over the last week or two. From balmy spring days with flat calm seas through to wintery showers and strong winds.
The spell of settled weather meant we could get a decent run of trips in and burn lots of the increasingly expensive fuel! We had a wide variety of species including Smooth-hounds which seemed to be building in size and numbers. We also had several bass mixed in too which are always a welcome sight. Several better fish came out including one of 4.12lbs for Barry Wood. We also had some fun on feathers one day, most of our catch was made up of herring although whiting, pouting and bass featured. Most notable was appearance of 10-15 mackerel mixed in too. Not something we expect this time of year around here.
In contrast to the summer species showing we have also seen winter species mixed in. there are still large numbers of whiting in most places. There have been some good whiting for our area with them too. The biggest so far was 43cm (17inches) long though there have been several others of a similar size in recent trips. There are still one or two tiny codling coming in too.
I am sure that as things settle into a more normal spring temperature and the daylight hours lengthen we will see the numbers of hounds and bass over take the whiting and codling. The roker are still keeping us occupied too and once again some decent sized females have been mixed in with the males. Martin had the biggest this week at over 14.4lbs.

If you would like a weekend booking or a specific date/tide then please get in touch and book as soon as possible or it may be gone. Quite a few mid-week dates have already gone too to please don’t delay.
