After last weeks report on the tope adventures Its back to our general trips again for this weeks reports. Although some of the hound fishing has gone off of the boil a little we have still been able to find a few. Some days we have to work harder than others to get results but there are still a few fish around double figures mixed in the get those reels screaming.  As we would expect, mixed in with the hounds we have seen several bass. There are some chunky 4-5lb fish coming out too. One or two of those can surely make an anglers day. although dogfish and rays are still present the numbers on most trips are low as we would expect this time of year. The few we have caught are a welcome addition to a days catch and it will only be a few weeks before numbers of these increase again. When bites are a little slower it often gives other species a chance to find our baits. This includes the occasional stingray or even sole as uncle Steve demonstrated on a recent trip with us.

We managed some short evening trips too. They were great fun in the sun with plenty of schoolie bass coming out. It was a pleasure to take Chris out to catch some bass on the fly rods. I look forwards to reading the article he has written about in for ‘trout and salmon’ magazine. Even small schoolie bass looked great fun on his 8 weight fly rod. I would have loved to have seen the 3-4lb fish that followed his fly to the boat but maybe next time.

 

We should see plenty more hounds and bass over the coming weeks as well as sneaking some other trips in too. If I cant get you out soon then please remember the bass will hang around offshore into November so please ask to get the best tides.
