We had a variety of weather this week with strong winds at times we saught shelter in the estuary. There’s no shortage of fish in there at the moment. The whiting are thick on the ground so much so they can be taken for granted at times. We spent a few hours having our first try of the season for dabs. The lads had a good few with Stephen Clarke top dog (as he often is) with 11 dabs. Stephen fished very hard with two rods and 3 hook paternosters rigs on each rod. This took some doing with two rods, most of us opted for 1 rod as the whiting were that thick it was almost like mackerel fishing. they were on the baits as soon as they hit the water let alone the bottom. Unsurprisingly triple shots of fish was commonplace and although it may not be as popular as cod fishing it was a pleasant way to spend the day.

When we ventured further afield we have found as many whiting along with a few roker here and there and even a stray codling! The roker arnt thick on the ground at the moment so we do have to work for them but they are still there and make a welcome break from whiting along with a decent bend in the rod.

The new boat is still proving popular and with the wind and swell we have fished in over the last few weeks she has handled well.

We still have plenty of space throughout December and over the Christmas period including  spaces on the ‘golden cod charity competition’
