February-offshore trip

i have held back a few reports from our offshore trips so far this year, i had most of them booked up in advance and i am trying to avoid people holding off booking until they see a good report.

we headed offshore today for the first time this year. As the inshore fishing had been so poor along with the weather we hadn’t done many trips the weeks leading up to today so we were glad just to get out. the weather wasn’t spot on but it was good enough and we could get to where we wanted. The weather had been a lot milder in the two weeks leading up to the trip so I was hopeful that the roker would be obliging if nothing else. Sure enough after a slow start they were soon coming in and numbers built as the day went on.  A few dogfish came out too but they were quite manageable and in low enough numbers. Stephen Charles snuck out the first spurdog of the year. She was a nice fish pushing double figures and was very welcome aboard.  There were some nice roker mixed in throughout the day and martin had the biggest around 12-13lbs (I cant remember the exact weight). Stephen Clarke winkled out a lone pouting but not before he too had his first spurdog of the year. This one was a bit more chunky and a decent double of around 13-15lbs. we didn’t weigh her as the lads have had lots around this size over previous trips. We had a move over the turn of the tide, just to try somewhere else for the last hour or so. We had nothing at all! Not even a bite so we threw in the towel early and headed home. It goes to show we were on the fish earlier and managed 33 roker, 2 spurs, plenty of dogfish and a pouting for our efforts.
