After a few days break I headed back after the pike today. I fished the same lake and even started in the same swim. My brother lee and his friend Ryan had arrived just ahead of me today and were already fishing. It didn’t take long for the first pike to come out and I was lucky enough to catch it. I must admit pike don’t always fight as well as one might hope but this one went like a train. After a couple of minutes of trying to tease it out of a reed bed next to my swim I was fortunate enough that it took a run into the open water. It wasn’t finished there but I soon had It in the net. It was no monster but a nice fish of 6-7lbs and very welcome too. The next pike came a while later and was somewhere around the doubles (although I didn’t weigh it). It was a while before the next one which was only 4-5lbs but a spirited fish which took me into the reeds on the other side of the swim to the first fish. I missed a couple of odd bites in between this which left no marks on the bait. I guessed this might be a perch and my suspicions were confirmed when the next bite produced a nice perch of 1.7lbs. bites dried up after this so I had a move around the lake. My brother and Ryan hadn’t been lucky enough to land a fish yet so I let them take the better looking swim while I went back to the sun trap we had blanked in the other day. Neither of these swim produced anything so we had another move for dusk. This proved beneficial to me as I snuck out two more pike around the 6-7lbs mark before home time. It had been a good day for me and I was grateful to lee for playing gillie, hopefully I can return the favour next time.
