ireland 2018

Today was a bit more breezy but we were able to push  a few miles outside of the harbour to have a try for sharks while fishing for other bits and bobs.  We had a later start and headed off in search of mackerel to start with.  We found them fairly quickly today and were soon out fishing.  I got the shark baits down and the ruby dubby going while steve started for other stuff. There were lots of whiting at first along with a few gurnards. As we drifted further back towards home the fishing improved with plenty of small ling, nice Pollock, a few codling and the odd cuckoo wrasse coming in. as the shark rods were just out on the off chance we had almost forgotten about them when the first one burst into action. We had a few lost fish before the first one made it in. this included a troublesome little porgie that first bit off my mainline while attacking my float then took another bait and still got away. as usual Stacey got the first shark in. it was a nice fish around 50-60lbs and had a mark on its mouth where we think it was the fish I had lost shortly before hand. It wasn’t long before steve also had his first blue this year with another nice fish in the 40-50lb range.  Things slowed down as the wind increased even more. We had a few more bits and bobs including a big pouting for steve but we gave up and headed back in to try for wrasse on the way home. We had a few nice wrasse and a Pollock
