After a slight delay we headed out in search of mackerel to start with as it looked like today was going to be our best shot at shark fishing with a bad forecast for the rest of the holiday. Mackerel were easier to get than yesterday but still took a while. We had a good ride out to start our drift. I got the ruby dubby going and shark baits down while steve got fishing for other stuff. There was a nice breeze to get us drifting but no real waves. We were drifting nice and slowely so had plenty of time for catching other stuff while waiting for the sharks. Steve started the day well with a cod 5-6lbs then a couple of Pollock and a ling 5lbs or so. Stacey and I had a few nice Pollock and a ling on a spinning rod then steve had a coalfish of 4.8lbs. as our drift continued I said I would set up for megrim and with that steve had a nice megrim just to rub it in. there were now plenty of whiting and the odd dogfish. Our drift began to change direction and by now we were beginning to worry we may be going too slowely. We hadn’t covered much ground and to illustrate how slow we were going steve caught a conger! By nearly 3pm we had only covered a mile and a bit so against my better judgement I decided to move off. We moved a few miles to where I had hoped to we might have reached by now in the hope of finding a shark in the next hour or so. By now the sea state had changed and it was getting snotty. We had another hour and a half or so but the wind was getting a bit much. When we reeled in steves bait had been bitten off behind the head. Non sharks today but the other fishing had more than made up for it.
