scotland 2018

scotland 2018

After our trips Stacey and I rushed home and got the Orkney on the back of the truck to head to Scotland for the week. We stopped over night in Gretna before continuing our journey on to Drumore on the shores of luce bay where we would be staying for the week.  We arrived mid morning and the weather was fantastic. We made our way down towards the mull of Galloway to east tarbet bay where I fancied launching today.  the scenery as we approached the mull was fantastic, bathed in bright sunshine and surrounded by glassy calm water. We could even see the isle of man out in the distance. We prepared the boat for launching and got her in the water where Stacey caught a little flattie with here bear hands! . As we went to back her off of the trailer we noticed the steering wasn’t working. After a few checks we realised the cable had snapped as the engine bounced around on the journey up here. We dragged the boat back out and headed off to try and find some locals to help. We started by heading to our bed and breakfast where we met Marilyn and Dave who we were staying with at driftwood b & b drumore. They recommended tom at Ardwell  marine who had also been recommended by a local fisherman we had spoken to on the way.  We made our way down there and as luck would have it they had a cable the right size for us and even helped us fit it! They had a selection of fishing tackle, bait and boat chandlery too so were worth bearing in mind if you head up here. I must admit this wasn’t how I planned to spend the first day of our holiday. Despite our best efforts with engine and trailer servicing and repairs before we left these things happen. We were pleased to get it sorted and ready to fish tomorrow. We spent the rest of the afternoon checking our potential boat launching sites and visiting the RSPB reserve at the mull of Galloway.
